Natural Ways to Reduce Stress and Strengthen Your Immune Sys

January 4th, 2009

How we deal with stress has a direct impact upon our immune system. Learn how to properly manage daily stress and keep yourself healthy, vibrant and more youthful.

Stress seems to have become a constant factor in today’s fast-paced society. If left unchecked, it can wreak havoc upon our health. Learning how to effectively manage stress can mean the difference between being robust and full of life, or becoming susceptible to illness and disease. Stress can weaken the immune system and accelerate the aging process. The ability to relax and rejuvenate promotes wellness, vitality and longevity.
A healthy immune system regulates our body’s healing process and protects it against infections and diseases. When stress compromises our immune function, it can result in colds, flu, fatigue, cardiovascular disorders and premature aging. Stress increases heart rate, blood pressure, glucose levels, adrenaline, cortisol, free radicals and oxidative damage. This initiates the “fight or flight” response, places undue strain upon the heart, and can also increase the feelings of anxiety and depression.

Protecting the immune system is a vital part of living longer, feeling younger and being healthy. Here are ten natural healthy ways to reduce stress, boost your immune system and slow down the hands of time.

1. Walking and Physical Activity (dancing, gardening, cycling, swimming, weight-lifting, etc.). Regular exercise and physical activity strengthens your immune system, cardiovascular system, heart, muscles and bones. It also stimulates the release of endorphins, improves mental functioning, concentration/attention and cognitive performance, and lowers cholesterol, blood pressure, cortisol and other stress hormones. Three 10-minute workout sessions during the day are just as effective as one 30-minute workout, and a lot easier to fit into a busy schedule.

2. Yoga and Stretching. The slow movements and controlled postures of yoga improves muscle strength, flexibility, range of motion, balance, breathing, blood circulation and promotes mental focus, clarity and calmness. Stretching also reduces mental and physical stress, tension and anxiety, promotes good sleep, lowers blood pressure and slows down your heart rate.

3. Hand Hygiene. The most effective measure in preventing the spread of microorganisms that cause infections is good hand hygiene. Washing your hands with soap and water as soon as you come home, and always before you eat, greatly reduces your exposure to bacterial and viral infections. In case you cannot wash with soap and water when you are away from home, carry some alcohol-based hand wipes with you to control microbial exposure and transmission.

4. Laughter and Humor. There is truth to the saying that laughter is the best medicine. Laughing reduces stress hormones like adrenaline (epinephrine) and cortisol. It also benefits your immune system by increasing the number and activity of Natural Killer T-cells. These cells act as the first line of defense against viral attacks and damaged cells. Find the humor in things and engage in activities that make you laugh to increase your immune function and disease resistance.

5. High Nutrient Diet. Eat foods rich in antioxidants (like vitamins A, C, E and lycopene), omega-3 fatty acids, and folate. Antioxidants fight and neutralize free radicals, which are molecules that damage cells and cause heart disease, cancer and premature aging. Omega-3 fatty acids (a polyunsaturated fat) have anti-inflammatory, cardiovascular-enhancing and immune-regulating properties. It is helpful in preventing and controlling high cholesterol, hypertension, heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, depression, inflammatory and auto-immune disorders. Folate prevents age-related cognitive decline, damage to blood vessels and brain cells by lowering homocysteine levels. It also ensures DNA integrity (important as we age and when pregnant) and promotes healthy red blood cells. Excellent food sources for these nutrients are as follows.

  • Antioxidants - pumpkin, sweet potatoes, carrots, kale, grapefruit (red and pink), blueberries, strawberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, oranges, peppers (red and green), tomatoes, broccoli, sunflower seeds, almonds and olive oil.

  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids - ground flax seeds, walnuts, salmon, soybeans and pumpkin seeds.

  • Folate - dark green leafy vegetables (turnip greens, mustard greens, spinach, romaine lettuce, collard greens, etc.), beans, legumes, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, beets and okra.

6. Music. Listening to your favorite music is a great method of reducing stress and relieving anxiety. Your individual preference in music determines which types of soothing sounds will best reduce your tension, blood pressure, and promote feelings of tranquility. Pay attention to how you feel when you hear a particular song or genre of music, and keep listening to the ones that produce a relaxing effect.

7. Sleep. Getting enough sound sleep has a profound impact on your stress levels, immune function and disease resistance. A chronic lack of sleep can leave you feeling sluggish, irritable, forgetful, accident-prone, and have difficulty concentrating or coping with life’s daily aggravations. Long-term sleep loss can also result in heart disease, stroke, hypertension, depression, and anxiety. Sleep time is when your body and immune system do most of its repairs and rejuvenation. Strive to get 7-8 hours of sleep each night. Remember rest and relaxation go hand in hand.

8. Positive Thinking. Optimism can counteract the negative impact stress, tension and anxiety has on your immune system and well-being. Often it is how you perceive things that determine if you get overwhelmed, both mentally and physically. Having a positive attitude, finding the good in what life throws your way and looking at the bright side of things enhances your ability to effectively manage stress.

9. Tea. Regularly drinking tea throughout the day can help strengthen your immune system and your body’s ability to fight off germs and infections. Both green and black teas contain a beneficial amino acid called L-theanine, which can increase the infection fighting capacity of gamma delta T cells. L-theanine also promotes a sense of relaxation, calmness and well-being by influencing the release and concentration of neurotransmitters (like dopamine, serotonin and GABA) in the brain.

10. Hydrotherapy. Relaxing in a hot bath relieves sore muscles and joints, reduces stress and tension, and promotes a good night’s sleep. Add some soothing music, soft lighting and naturally scented bath salts or bubble bath/bath foam to create an inexpensive and convenient spa experience in the privacy of your own home.

To get you started, try Monique N. Gilbert’s delicious and nutritious recipe. It’s high in antioxidants and Omega-3 fatty acids.

The company name reflects the commitment to developing business application solutions that encompass the complex areas of project-based and job-based manufacturing. Encompix provides ETO manufacturers with a competitive advantage by improving bottom line results. Q3 2005 has been exceptional for the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), manufacturing software leader. The new clients include:

Shick Tube-Veyor Corporation was founded in 1956 by William F. Ungashick, an aeronautical engineer. Today, Shick is an industry leader in providing single source automated ingredient handling systems and equipment. Shick designs, manufactures, installs and services systems for customers primarily in the baking industry. Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, Shick has approximately 165 employees located in Missouri and Singapore.

Nature Screensavers

December 27th, 2008

Nature Screensavers are extremely popular with nature lovers. Options in this category of screensavers range from those that display scenic beauty to those that show animals and their antics. Screensavers that seem to catch the fancy of a lot of nature lovers are those that ‘play’ with water. From screensavers that show the rippling effect of water, to waterfalls, to streams, oceans and beaches - the range is simply astounding.

Sometimes people are unable to decide between screensavers. This can lead to quite a predicament as it is possible to spend days downloading, installing and trying out screensavers, and still not be satisfied. A situation like this can be tackled based on two insights: an insight into what the user wants to see on the screen depending on a personal preference and an insight into what the user wants to be seen to be using. It is natural and human for people to want to be perceived as hip and happening based on the screensaver that they use, in addition to other things, of course.

When it comes to personal preferences, people often wonder whether a “very bright” screensaver would work for them or whether a “very sober” one would do the trick. Sometimes, they also mull over whether or not the screensaver of their choice should have accompanying audio. Graphics also make people think; they’d like a lot of graphics but can’t decide whether these will be compatible with the configuration of their computer or not.

An appropriate Nature Screensaver can be selected if all factors are taken into consideration and a balanced decision is made. Screensavers that are too bright often disturb people rather than give them a ‘visual break’ from whatever they are doing. At the same time, those that are too sober sometimes dull the senses and inflict monotony and boredom. An attractive and effective Nature Screensaver is one that has a balance of bright and dark colors. It may or may not be accompanied by music. If it is accompanied by music, the music should have a distinct rhythm, though not a jarring one.

Nature Screensavers with complex graphics are visually appealing but place additional pressure on the computer to perform, sometimes causing it to freeze or even crash. Nature Screensavers with minimal graphics can prove to be as good as non-existent. Therefore, it is a good idea to select a screensaver that has graphics, but not one that has them in excess. They are, in fact, the ones that feature water in different settings. These are interesting, relaxing, and visually attractive for the user and those in the vicinity.

Screensavers provides detailed information about screensavers, free screensavers, nature screensavers, animated screensavers and more. Screensavers is the sister site of Computer Projector Rentals.

Special events recording in DVD players’ age

November 27th, 2008

The proliferation of portable DVD players has dramatically changed the videography approach.

Digital era prompted people to make critical choices. Videotapes’ life came to an end as the DVDs and DVD players appeared and replaced them by and large. To meet the emerging needs, new services and new jobs showed up, drawing out a growing industry.
Preserving for the future

If you really want to preserve your touching family records (weddings, births, anniversary moments) or you really need to preserve and share your business presentations, then you should definitely transfer onto DVD formats.

Old formats have been forsaken because:

* old videotapes are much more fragile
* over time the degradation is imminent
* videotapes lose quality in case you make copies to try to preserve or share them, and maybe worse of them,
* you arent’t allowed to a easy access, play, and search.

On the other side, with a DVD format you can:

1. watch much more conveniently on DVD players (even on the road, with portables), desktops, laptops
2. DVD menus and chapter breaks allow you to browse through scenes and jump directly to a favorite clip. DVDs may include also other materials, such as photo slide shows and computer files. And maybe best of all advanatges of digital technology:
3. each copy you make is an precise duplicate of the original, so you can show and register your memories into the future.

In other words, you have the possibility to realize personal optimized records.

Well, who can do all these, at high standard ?

* You, by our own. If you want your video transferred onto DVD with basic menus and chapters, you should ask for services like YesVideo and HomeMovie.com. All you have to do is to send them the tapes. They are to digitize and process them into DVD format, burn them to disc, and then ship back to you what you asked for. The client is offered the posibility to get back the tapes from a store that represents one of these services. Or, in case you don’t have enough time or required skills,
* A professional video production or DVD authoring facility to make the job.

Live Event Production Services

By recording live award shows, live concerts, music festivals outdoor, corporate events and variety shows, entertainment industry has given a whole new significance to videography industry. There are now many professional companies doing this job at very high quality levels. They have to register/shoot and edit what is happening on the stage, but also:

* to integrate various moments: the show itself, short interviews before and after, what is called “behind the scenes”, very appreciate by the artists themselves and the audience, too
* finally, to pack all formats: live orchestras, audio and video playback, television production, sound systems and put on a DVD format to deliver
* to authorize the product

Given the fact that these kind of video productions has additionally a documentary value, they are highly rated in entertainment industry. Besides,

1. the easiness of delivering and playing in home theater or on long trips by car
2. the compatibility and
3. the connectivity on different advanced players

make live event productions very popular, too. And all these, thanks to the yielding DVDs revolution.

ERP and CAD Integration in Engineer-to-Order Environment

November 19th, 2008

The current issue of Automation.com includes a feature article by contributing editor, Thomas R. Cutler about ERP and CAD integration in the ETO (Engineer-to-Order) Environment. According to Cutler’s feature, traditional ERP systems were developed for the repetitive, make-to-stock manufacturer, where there is a clear demarcation between design and production. In that environment the engineer designs the product in a CAD application. After testing and prototyping, the product is released to production, which is managed by the ERP system. The design engineer has little or no interaction with the ERP system and works quite happily in a CAD environment. Following the work of the design engineer, a production engineer then creates a bill of materials (BOM), based on how it will be manufactured, not on how the product is designed. In the Engineer-to-Order (ETO) world the role of the design engineer is very different. By its nature an ETO company builds a unique product designed to meet the specification of a single customer. The two worlds of design and manufacturing are closely linked. In many cased the design of the product continues through the product process (design-in-process), incorporating a multitude of engineering changes. These changes can be driven by the customer or by the manufacturer. In this environment a seamless flow of data between engineering and production is critical. An ETO company must integrate CAD and ERP.

Automation.com is for manufacturers and suppliers of industrial, factory and process automation, motion control, machine control, process control and instrumentation products and services. Are You Targeted For Search Engine Failure?

November 10th, 2008

Have you noticed how some of your competition gets all of the free search engine traffic? Have you wondered why that is?

Getting ranked on the first page for your keywords is vital for online success and it isn’t as difficult to do as you may think. Most people just don’t know how to go about taking back some of that traffic that their competition has secured.

Some Search Engine Optimization (SEO) gurus will tell you that, “It’s difficult to get high rankings in the search engine”, so hire me and I’ll do for _____ . You fill in the dollar amount because I’m sure you’ve heard it all. Of course they are going to tell you that it’s difficult because
They want your money
You’re willing to pay to get ranked high
They know you more than likely aren’t as skilled as they are
I’m not saying that SEO companies are vicious and sitting around conjuring up ways to suck your money from your wallet. They are very good at what they do and should be compensated for the great work that they do. I’m saying that it isn’t necessary to hire one before you try it for yourself.

SEO companies spend all day optimizing and marketing websites and have become very effective in getting sites ranked, but I’m hear to tell you that it is very easy to do. You no longer have to pay the hundreds or thousands of dollars you are used to or have heard of.

Some website owners I’ve spoken with think that SEO is a complicated topic and that only SEO professionals can do it well. That’s not true at all. You just have to know what the search engines are looking for.

Would you rather spend a grand on search engine optimization or would you rather spend a grand on other business process and take the time to optimize your website yourself? If you have the right tools and the know-how that is exactly what you can do.

Some website owners may not have the time to spend on optimizing their websites and that’s ok, but if you can find an hour or two a day to work on your optimization efforts you will be surprised what you can do and for free.

I started my first e-commerce website back in 1999 and we hired a SEO company to get us well ranked. That investment paid off as we went on to sell more than $300,000 in product our first year. However, that investment cost me over $9,000.

I thought to myself I just paid nine thousand dollars and they worked on my site for about 5 weeks. So I started to research SEO to see what it was all about.

I was surprised what I learned.

I had researched so much that I could have started my own SEO company. I found out that SEO actually wasn’t all that hard to do. So when I launch my second business I had all of the knowledge to do it myself and I did just that. I essentially saved myself thousands of dollars and my website was pulling in 80,000 unique visitors a month as a result.

This was after only 4 months from launching it.

So how do websites do it? How do they get those top ranking for the most competitive keywords? It’s quite simple actually

I’ll explain.

SEO involves many factors, but the most important factor is anchor text/link text of incoming links. Search engines place heavy emphases on the anchor text/link text of incoming links. Anchor text can be the determining factor in whether or not you place high for your most competitive keywords.

Anchor text in incoming links is so powerful that you may rank well for your most competitive keywords without any other SEO work done period. That’s how important it is.

Link-building should be your top priority in your search engine optimization campaign as it is one of the most influential SEO tactics. Target yourself for success by targeting link building.

Infants and Acid Reflux

November 7th, 2008

Infant acid reflux is quite common. People of all ages, especially infants because they consume only liquids or soft foods, suffer from mild heartburn or acidic regurgitation on occasion. As in adult cases, infants experience acid reflux when the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is relaxed.

The LES acts as a valve between the esophagus and the stomach. It opens up to allow food into the stomach and then closes in order to protect the esophagus and other organs from acidic reflux. Unfortunately, it is difficult to determine if an infant has developed a chronic form of heartburn called gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD.

In order to determine if an infant has a chronic form of heartburn (GERD) you should consult your pediatrician. Look for clues such as sleeping problems, coughing, weight loss, lack of appetite, spitting up frequently, and apnea. Acid reflux disease can cause respiratory problems including pneumonia, strictures and ulcerations on the esophageal wall, and malnourishment. Infant acid reflux symptoms usually include recurrent coughing, bad breath, spitting up frequently, unusual irritability and crying, chest pain, and sore throat.

There are several causes of acid reflux in infants. Many of the causes are exacerbated by the fact that infants, much more so than adults, consume mostly liquids and spend a great deal of time on their backs or in a supine position. Combined with the backwash potential of liquids, lying down puts pressure on the LES (esophagus valve) and increases the chances for reflux. Other causes could be attributed to the anatomy of a child’s stomach position, poor eating habits, smoking (second hand), being overweight, and food allergies.

In addition to GERD, infants can be diagnosed with a functional version of acid reflux. This condition can be improved with simple modifications such as changing eating habits, keeping the child upright after eating, and encouragement. GERD, or the chronic disease, requires medical treatment by a physician, prescription drug therapy, as well as lifestyle changes.

A Different Kind Of “Gaming”

November 7th, 2008

If you were a “gamer,” you’d have noticed the influx of interactive games where you would be playing either against or with the person seated next to you in an Internet shop. And judging from the now very noisy Internet cafés that used to be quiet hangouts for chatters and surfers, it would probably be safe to assume that that sort of gaming has reached Philippine shores.

Likewise, nobody can refute the popularity of reality-based games, not with TV shows like The Amazing Race, Survivor, The Apprentice, Fear Factor, The 5th Wheel, and The Bachelor.

Now take the sophistication of interactive gamingconsidering that computer games before meant Atari (1972) and Nintendo (1977)and the concept of reality-based contests which, in order to “win” means a test of wits and skills, a notch higher and you graduate to the realm of “multi-media” gaming.

What is a multi-media game?
A multi-media game is like an adventure movie in which the player plays an active role as the leading character. Information, clues and assignments reaches the player by all media surrounding him. A large number of SMS messages, web sites, radio announcements, news paper/magazine ads and voice (response) systems guide him through the game.

One of the more popular multi-media games is the Nokia Game by Euro RSCG Worldwide, a worldwide communications agency network.

On the day that the game was launched, players received a short message on their mobile phones telling them that the game has started. Their first assignment was to watch TV at a given time and channel. What they saw was a short 45-second TV movie, where they became acquainted with the main character of the game. From the player’s perspective, he sees himself in an unpleasant situation. The movie ends with a web address where the story continues.

Another multi-media game was Dr. Inkbeer, which was launched in Singapore as part of Asia Pacific Breweries’ integrated marketing strategy to tap the youth.

In the game, a central characterDr. Inkbeerwas created. He was a “renowned scientist” who was conducting a “global social experiment to prove that sociability and intelligence are inter-dependent.” To pull off the last leg of his experiment, he needed 20,000 volunteers and called on Singaporean yuppies to participate.

Dr. Inkbeer was a full-blown, multi-media game that made use of mobile phones, the Internet, television and all other media the youth were sure to see in “gimmick” places. These media were also essential to actually playing the game, which resulted in 22,000 registrations and the Dr. Inkbeer website getting some five million hits.

Multi-media gaming would seem right up the local gamer’s alley, what with the Pinoy’s mix of ingenuity and resilience. Unfortunately, although Filipinos have participated in a lot of such interactive, multi-media games, none have been launched locally.

None, that is, until Character Quest, the prelude to the first ever, proudly Pinoy-made, multi-media game by Euro RSCG Manila for the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI).

The PDI’s “Character Quest” was essentially a talent search of sorts that looked for participants, 18 to 45 years old who have had no major experience in professional modeling or acting. The search, though already a game in itself, was only the platform used to look for the right support characters who play important roles in a bigger, more complicated game.

Now what this game is exactly and its nature, well, gamers will just have to wait and see.

How Freelancers Can Expand Their Business Using Personal Coa

November 7th, 2008

Back in 1985 when I first started copywriting, the only help
I could find on the subject were books by Herschell Gordon
Lewis, Bob Stone, David Ogilvy, and a few others. I didn’t
even look for books on how to build a copywriting business
because it never crossed my mind that one would exist.

Since that time copywriters have access to some very fine books
on how to build their businesses, most notably books by Bob Bly,
Steve Slaunwhite, and Peter Bowerman. But even these books
can’t help you when you’re confused about how to make a project
move forward that’s “stuck,” or what to do with a client’s new
hire who doesn’t seem to want to work with you.

These are problems one of my coaching clients had last week,
and I was able to solve both of her problems with one
document that I have refined throughout the years and which
has kept my direct response campaigns on target 100% of the time.

This particular client reported back at our next session that
everyone was thrilled with “her idea,” and the new hire
became warm and friendly, and offered lots of eye contact.

This is just one real world example of how personal coaching
by a veteran copywriter can increase a copywriter’s business
success. My clients come to me with all of the challenges,
issues, and problems I encountered on my own for so many
years challenges I’ve overcome the hard way by making
mistakes, spending too much money, and growing ever so
slowly toward success.

Today I’m enjoying the benefits of working with some of the
world’s most prestigious companies, of having many contacts
in the industry, and being able to choose the projects I want to
work on and reject those I don’t.

In recent years I’ve helped many copywriters, mostly those who
became friends. But now I have gone one step further by offering
my services on a professional basis. Today I am coaching a
seasoned copywriter on the best way to get more clients; for
another, I’m getting her on track for earning more money; and for
a third a newcomer to copywriting I’m helping him create
powerful marketing materials.

Rarely does a copywriter come to me with a single issue.
Usually they’re trying to achieve a short- or long-term goal,
so we set up weekly one-hour phone sessions with 24/7
support in between. After each session, the copywriter (or
graphic artist) completes “homework” that pertains to his
or her goals.

Issues common to the business of freelancing include making
more money, getting more clients, getting paid what you’re
worth, and working for the companies or industries that respect
copywriters and designers, and that pay well.

Marketing is another area in which coaching is helpful.
Copywriters grapple with getting samples and getting the results
of their lead-generating or order-generating campaigns. They
wonder how to go about doing a successful lead-generating
campaign for themselves. And they wonder how best to sell
themselves to a potential client once they do have a “hot” lead.

There’s also things to know about copywriting that a writer
may never find out about. For instance, do you know how some
copywriters are able to make millions of dollars each year? (They
create their own products and use their master copywriting
skills to sell them.)

Did you know that in some industries, you can get paid royalties
for writing a direct mail piece, just like book authors do?
(Publishing and alternative health are two big ones.)

And did you know that many “high powered” copywriters don’t do
all the work themselves? (Most of the famous guys use
“copy chiefs,” sometimes as many as five, to go over an order-
generating piece, until it has its best chance of winning in the
mail, on the Internet, or in the case of a print ad, in a magazine.)

If I had known what I now know when I started out in this
fascinating business, I might have made different choices. But
even if I had not, one thing is for sure, and that’s that I would
have achieved success much sooner.

If you’re ever in a quandary, or if you’re goal-oriented and want
to build a successful freelancing business as quickly as possible,
now you know someone who will give you the support and
information you need. For more on personal coaching for
copywriters, designers, and other business freelancers, visit
