Infact, some theatre productions have been pleasing people for over 15 years and still driving theatre lovers. With the interest of this kind of entertainment, we will look at the highest earning and longest running theatre productions in the world.
The heavy weight theatre musical that has to be mentioned is Phantom, one of the most magnificent theatre productions to ever be staged. This tremendous show is the longest running theatre production in entertainment history and the most earning of all time. The theatre musical was created for the theatre by Andrew Lloyd Webber and describes the story of a scarred French male who falls in deep love with a chorus singer from the opera house. The magnificent songs of the theatre production are now so well known and the mask worn by the Phantom of the Opera is so unmistakable that it’s found in numerous fancy dress parties around the world.
Next is the marvellous musical show known as Cats. Again another recognized theatre show and one that ran just about 19 years until its last curtain call in late 2000. Cats won both the Laurence Olivier Award and the Tony award for best theatre show and was shown in both London’s showbiz West End and world famous Broadway New York. The musical was so successful that it was scripted into 20 separate languages and even shown around the globe. Cats the theatre production was a real record breaker.
Now it is time for the most popular play with a French title of all time, Les Miserable aka Les Mis or changed into English as The Miserables or The Terribles. The musical has been running in London’s glittering West End for over 20 years now and is the second longest running musical production in London’s entertainment history. One of the most publicised songs from the theatre production is I Dreamed a Dream, which was also sung by Britains Got Talent runner up Susan Boyle. The theatre musical Cats was up for twelve Tony awards and won eight of them, including best musical show.
