The NBA’s Best Courts

February 28th, 2009

Fans will argue about which NBA team they feel is better. Some will argue about which players are better. Now here’s the real scoop on which NBA teams have the best courts that will get the fans pumped up to see the game.

If you’re a fan that likes to get into a game without having to pay enormous amounts of cash, then New Orleans is the court you want to watch it at. For just $51.00 a fan is able to get a seat six rows off the court floor. If you want to upgrade to club seating though it will set you back $135, but from these seats you can practically touch the players as they walk from the tunnel to the court.

When it comes to parking, no one wants to park several miles away from the arena. That’s why if you’re one who wants to get cheap, close parking then the Phoenix Suns’ arena is the place for you. Parking costs only about $7 and its less than three minutes from the farthest spot to the arena. Plus, traffic doesn’t sit around for long periods of time so one will be in and out when it comes to parking.

One of the best things about enjoying a basketball game is the concessions. There’s nothing better than a nice snack while watching a basketball game. So if you’re one who doesn’t like to spend a tremendous amount on food then the Atlanta Hawks will be a team you might enjoy. At this arena one can get a 32 ounce soda for only $3.50, or you can spend a little more and get a team jersey for $125. The area itself has a nice atmosphere to it with garbage cans painted as nets. You can even check up on the stock market as it is flashed on one wall with updated scores on another.

For fans who like to get very involved into the game, a good arena to attend would be that of the Sacramento Kings. With a banner hanging above the court stating, “The NBA’s No.1 Home-court Advantage” anyone can feel like they’re part of the game. With the team being the only show in town, sellouts are a routine for Sacramento fans whether the team is not doing as hot, or they’re on fire.

Now for those Laker Girl fans out there, here’s a little surprise for you. The Miami Heat have dancers that will make you’re jaw hit the ground. With dancers that are well drilled and just as good as those Laker Girls, they can make any man love basketball. Just because they’re not as hyped about as the Laker Girls doesn’t mean they still can’t give the audience a performance they’ll never forget. So if you like watching beautiful girls dance around a basketball court in tight clothes, then you might want to check out the arena of the Miami Heat.

Sheds Don’t Have to Be Too High-Priced if You Purchase on the Internet and Take Advantage of the Gigantic Choice

February 28th, 2009

There are a lot of sound reasons why you might need a garden shed and luckily there are sheds to meet just about every need. Sheds can be purchased just about all over but what you will see is the price will vary tremendously. You shouldn’t have to abandon the garden shed you want because it is too expensive though. A shed is something you purchase once and utilize for years and if you take a look on the net you can obtain cheap garden sheds at some pretty silly prices. I don’t mean cheap and silly as in quality but as in monetary value. You’ll find you can acquire the garden shed you need for the cost of the one you were about to settle for a lot less and if you own a garden that you tend to each day you will most in all probability need to look into Cheap garden sheds as a space to place the fertilizer, water hose and tools etc..

Looking after your tools and making them easily available is a real good idea. You can find garden sheds on the net that are the same sheds you’d purchase in the shop. In fact, you can go to the garden store and shop even touch them to see if it’s what you need and then go on the net and buy it for a whole lot less. The difference in price is sizeable!

THE NEW, HIGH SCORING NHL?

February 27th, 2009

The NHL decided to go retro this year. That’s right. It’s not so much that they instituted new rules; rather they went back to some old ones. The hoped for result has happened–scoring is up 24% from 2003-04.

Is the game more exciting? It seems to be. Are goaltenders and defensemen at a greater disadvantage than they were the last time the league produced a season of hockey? Definitely. The game has opened up for numerous reasons. The prohibition of the two-line pass is gone and that has opened up more chances for exciting playmaking. Now a defenseman who is still in his own zone can now shoot a pass to a winger breaking across the red line who catches it and continues over the blue line, shooting the puck on net. In past seasons that winger would have been whistled for connecting with a two-line pass and the play would have been dead.

For off sides there’s the “tag-up rule”, which allows offensive players who have preceded the puck into the attack zone to tag-up or touch the blue line and continue with play. Before, if a player were off sides the play would be stopped immediately. The new tag up rule has meant fewer whistles stopping the flow of the game.

When players are allowed to continue a play, as they are with these rules, there’s the chance for more shots and more goals. The NHL has noted that the number of shots on goal is also up.

One decision that has opened up the game but initially also slowed it down relates to defensive play, specifically what a defenseman can and can’t do. Prior to the start of the season officials were told by the league to pay special attention to interference, holding, hooking–any obstructive play. Especially at the start of the season there seemed to be an almost constant din of whistles, but as teams adjusted to the tighter calls, defensemen started relying more on stick work and there have been fewer whistles.

Of course with more calls against defensemen the number of power plays, which open up play even more, rose, thus gives teams a better shot–literally and figuratively–at scoring. Some players, former players, and commentators have been extremely vocal about this change. They feel it’s almost as if the defense has to ask permission before it asserts itself.

The fact is that “goon” defenseman just won’t cut it in the league anymore. In order to be effective at stopping the offense, players now have to utilize finer skills such as poke checking.

Another rule instituted to dissuade obstruction of play states that anyone instigating a fight in the final five minutes of a game will receive a game misconduct and a one-game suspension. This rule enforces the desire of the league to keep play unhampered and the game moving.

Then there’s the incredible shrinking goaltender, who is now 11% smaller. Has truncating the net-minder’s equipment really had much effect? Overall the bulk of the goalie’s gear has been reduced by 11% and sweaters and pants are also less bulky. Pads have been reduced by an inch and gloves and blockers aren’t as large. When you think about it logically such a reduction probably hasn’t had much of an influence on the rise in scoring.

Consider the fact that NHL goaltenders are amazing athletes capable of going to the right, making a pad save and then rushing to the other side of the net to stop a wrap around. They’ll do the butterfly and immediately be back on their skates, ready for the rebound. They possess extraordinary reflexes, having to wait till the last millisecond before they react to a shot. If anything, the reduction of bulk may have made these denizens of the crease more mobile and more effective.

A decrease of size in goaltending equipment would probably have a drastic effect if the league went back to the 70’s and early 80’s when pads weren’t much wider than the tender’s legs and anyone who wore a mask looked like Jason from the Friday the 13th movies. Diminutive gear would certainly result in more goals and probably more injuries to goalies.

Goaltenders have been made more vulnerable to scoring because of the limits the NHL has imposed on handling the puck. If a goalie freezes the puck unnecessarily then he can be called for delay of game. Additionally, the NHL’s creation of a trapezoid area demarcating the only space behind the goal line that a tender can handle the puck means that shooters have more access to the puck and greater opportunity to make plays.

In past seasons goaltenders could handle and freeze the puck more often, which meant they could keep it away from the offense before a winger ever had a chance to shoot. Now net-minders must wait for the shot more often, making them more reactive than proactive.

Finally, along with the incredible shrinking goaltender there’s the amazing expanding offensive zone. Neutral ice has been compacted and the offensive zones have been extended by four feet, creating more attack space, greater offensive mobility, and a lot more ice for the defense to cover, especially on the power play.

This season the team that has really taken advantage of having more open ice and less opposition is the Ottawa Senators who have scored 185 goals in 44 games. The Senators could score 350 or more goals this season. That’s something that hasn’t been done in a decade.

The game has opened up and so too has the net. More scoring chances, fewer whistles, and ongoing play have combined to make life tougher for the defense and sweeter for the shooters. The result is fans are enjoying more action, which makes them the ultimate winners.

The Simple Golf Swing Review

February 26th, 2009

Let me start off by saying that I was extremely leary about buying something off of the internet to help improve my golf swing. And come on, “The Simple Golf Swing”? Everyone knows a perfect golf swing like Tiger Woods is anything but simple. After reading some of the testimonials and since the price of the book was so low (I spend more on golf balls) I decided to buy the book because it is 100% guaranteed – if it sucked I would just get a refund. One of the main reasons I decided to buy the book was because I don’t have time to have a golf trainer or practice all the time. I surf pretty much any day there are waves in Florida, I go to college, and I have to keep my websites updated daily.

So I decided to buy the book and I spent a few hours reading it from front to back over and over. I decided I would just print the book out and bring it with me to the golf course in the morning so I didn’t forget anything. After a short surf session with my friends, we drove across the street to our local golf course in Melbourne Beach, FL.

Let me just put it this way, my friends were amazed at my golf swings and were convinced that I had a personal golf trainer. The first day that I had tried out the tips that I got from the Simple Golf Swing I improved my handicap from a 17 to a 13. I improved my accuracy and distance hitting the golf ball as well. This was just my first time using the Simple Golf Swing tips and they were definetly helping my golf swing.

Two days later I went back to the course and had even better results. It was a rainy day, so I wanted to test out some more tips that were in the Simple Golf Swing book. My first tee I had a great hit even with the wetness of the ball and club. I have never had a ball fly this straight and high in the rain before.

Every hole after the first was the same. I would’ve never dreamed of making such solid contact thru 18 holes. The ultimate test came on the 5th hole where I’m sitting at 200 yards out in the middle of the fairway on an uphill par 4. I grab my 3 iron which still looks new from lack of use and I nail it within 15 feet of the hole. I wound up shooting 80 and the only reason that I was that high, was club selection between my sand and pitching wedge. I was getting so much action on my sand wedge that 3 times I hit the front of the green and it sucked right back off the green. That’s the first time that has ever happened to me. To top things off my playing partner, seeing me hit so well, asked me what I’d changed. I gave him a brief lesson and within two holes he’s hitting them a far and as straight as I’ve ever seen him.

I honestly recommend The Simple Golf Swing even if you already think you are Tiger Woods. A lot of people have had success with The Simple Golf Swing and you can read more testimonials on their website.

Largemouth Bass Fishing with the Carolina Rig vs. The Texas Rig

February 25th, 2009

The Texas rig and the Carolina rig are two popular setups for fishing plastic worms, which are one of the most consistently effective bass baits in the world. This article will explain the difference between the two as well as when to fish each rig.

For the Texas rig, the weight is placed directly above the worm. A bullet weight is tied onto the line and is situated directly above the head. The hook should penetrate into the worm’s side so as to make the rig weedless. The Texas rig is my personal favorite as you have a much better feel for the strike. The plastic worm is slowly dragged along the bottom through grass, reeds, sunken trees, etc. The key is to feel the rig slowly tap across the bottom. Work the rig slowly and maintain good contact and feel the bottom.

For the Carolina rig, you attach an egg, bullet weight or split shots 12 to 18 inches above your hook. Simply attach a weight above a swivel and then tie on your leader. You rig up the worm just as you would for the Texas rig, so that it’s completely weedless. Strikes are tougher to feel with this setup, however in deep water or on windy days, when you can’t feel the worm dragging across the bottom with the Texas rig, the Carolina rig is the way to go. Anytime that you sense that something feels a bit different or does not feel quite right set the hook and set it hard. Have a camera ready so you can take some fishing pictures of your trophy bass.

Poll Shows that UK Civil Engineers are Worried About Climate Change

February 25th, 2009

More than 80% civil engineers are now not only convinced that Climate Change is taking place: They also claim to be worried about it, according to a poll of 519 Chartered UK Civil Engineers.

The poll was carried out by the New Civil Engineer, the official weekly magazine of the profession, which is sent out to all members of the Institution of Civil Engineers. It was published in the 19 January 2006 edition.

What is more striking is that 56% said that they were prepared to change their lifestyles to help cut Britain’s energy consumption, and 51% of those that expressed an opinion say that they would be prepared to alter their lifestyles to reduce the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions, but would only do so – probably quite pragmatically and reasonably – if pushed to so do by taxation or legislation to take these steps. Also, in the response to these questions a surprisingly large percentage actually said they would be prepared to change their lifestyle “a lot”.

Subsequent editions have not raised any comment from the members in the letter page or the editorial. So we can assume that acceptance of anthropomorphic Climate Change in the profession is mainstream and uncontested.

The poll was actually carried out to gauge the opinions of the profession on the nuclear debate currently underway; a debate which has been given additional momentum by Dr Lovelock’s view that global warming effects are so severe, and so inevitable now, that unless the rate of carbon emissions are reduced in less time than is available for normal political and economic action, there will be no means by which the inevitable drift toward catastrophe of Climate Change can be halted.

Furthermore, Porfessor Lovelock (originator of the Gaia Theory of natural systems) says that the UK has no choice but to go-nuclear again in a big way, especially since most of the 21% of our power which is at present generated by nuclear power stations is soon to be lost when they are closed, due to ageing.

In fact, unless these stations are refurbished soon to extend their lives, only 7% of our power will be generated from nuclear by 2013, and we will have to build new nuclear plants just to avoid a significant demand for alternative forms of generation, which can only be fully satisfied from non-renewable (fossil fuel) sources, and thereby raising our national carbon dioxide emissions.

Nuclear power is relatively carbon neutral, but all new nuclear installations have been halted for the past 15 years or so in the UK, due to:

* public hostility to the acceptance of the risk of nuclear incidents,

* the inability of the UK government to solve the problem of nuclear waste disposal,

* and concerns about nuclear proliferation should the UK be shown to be encouraging the use of nuclear at home when maintaining a policy that the developing nations should not themselves “Go nuclear”.

Therefore, Dr Lovelock has proposed that dangerous or not, the UK should build more nuclear power plants, and this has encouraged government and professionals alike to reopen the nuclear debate. This debate has now started, and early indications are that the civil engineers involved in much of the energy strategy work and opinion-forming within government will be so concerned about carbon dioxide emissions that all other concerns about nuclear power will be pushed aside. Such risks may be seen as “risks to be managed” and risk taking of this magnitude, as being a reasonable strategy, when faced by the alternative threat of global catastrophe.

However, whatever one’s view may be on the nuclear power debate, the groundswell of opinion is changing at least among this group of professionals. Although one poll can never be considered conclusive it shows that these professionals at least, comprise a constituency of opinion which, if in time this was repeated across the community, would begin to sway the government toward measures which might bring real change in the future.

Getting Business Insurance Is Critical to the Longevity of Your Firm

February 23rd, 2009

There is no refuting the fact that the triumph of a company ultimately is as a result of the work of the workforce, but one event can swiftly wipe out your efforts & bring down the income to zero. In order to steer clear of such an occasion, you are suggested to insure your firm, whether it’s a small firm or a large corporation. Nonetheless, please keep in mind that smaller companies are a great deal more likely to require business insurance cover in today’s world. This is largely because SME owners will have put their total lives & income into the firm.

A few of the things frequently protected by the majority of business insurance covers entail: natural disasters, fires, mechanism or apparatus malfunction that closes down the organisation, loss of earnings caused by workforce fault & legal action brought against the firm.

There are a great deal of insurance companies, which have policy covers that include both protection for all key property & liability risks in one big package. You can also acquire a separate cover. Such a policy cover is frequently nicknamed as a business owners’ policy (BOP). Large sized companies may obtain a commercial cover. If you are looking for a public liability insurance quote, then visit this site today.

BOPs incorporate property insurance for property & gear belonging to the company. If there is any loss of earnings due to disruption of systems and production because of catastrophes such as tornadoes, it can be protected under the Business Interruption Insurance.

There are a mixture of liabilities, which protects the businesses legal blame for the harm it could cause to others. It’s the result your organisation’s failure to do the business operations. It can also be the bodily injury or building damage caused through malfunctioning items, faulty fittings and slips in services provided.

Nevertheless, BOPs do not cover professional liability, car insurance, employees’ reimbursement or health and disability insurance. In this instance separate policies are vital for professional services, commercial vehicles and staff. On the whole, floods, earthquakes & terrorist attacks are not protected in the business insurance. Always double check before you buy!

Virtual Hosting vs Dedicated Hosting

February 23rd, 2009

Why do some organizations choose to host their own Web site on their own managed servers, while others contract with a Webhosting company or purchase their ecommerce hosting services through an ISP (Internet service provider)?

While cost (including risk) and flexibility are often the two primary considerations when choosing how to host a website, understanding distinctions among Webhosting options and the pros and cons of each will help you pare down the list to something considerably more manageable, ensuring that you make the best decision.

Webhosting plans can be categorized broadly into two types: virtual server hosting and dedicated server hosting. Small to medium-sized businesses typically choose a virtual server plan where multiple ecommerce web sites are hosted on space within a single server. This service allows you to share a server with others, but your site is further protected or isolated with its own server resources including processor, memory, and disk storage. This arrangement works well for small sites that rely on dynamic generation of content from a backend database, small ecommerce sites, or for customers who wish to manage several separate web sites.

The reason that vendors can offer low-priced domain hosting for virtual private servers is because the customers look the same and require a set of web services that are essentially identical from site to site. Webhosting vendors who are able to package similar services across a huge volume of customers most effectively are generally the most successful since they can capture substantial economies of scale.

Dedicated hosting on the other hand is an option for mid- to large-sized businesses that require or desire the flexibility that comes with dedicated servers. While more expensive, this type of plan generally provides a higher level of security, support, and maintenance with a guaranteed level of availability. Offering this type of guarantee generally reflects a level of redundancy within the vendor’s data-center operations that severely decreases the chances of downtime or removes the risk all together. Depending on the vendor’s plan, flexibility means you can write and run your own custom scripts or applications and even use a content management system to manage the web site but not worry about managing the network, server hardware, or operating system.

The easiest decision will likely be whether you intend to host the site yourself or contract with a webhosting vendor. Scale is the primary decision-making factor. Going it alone takes money and the willingness to assume the activities and risk associated with managing the server hardware, software, and connectivity. For organizations that already have a dedicated IT staff and data center, hosting may be an affordable option. The IT department may, in turn, offer a shared server arrangement where organizational entities such as the organization’s library are provided space on the server. But for those who are unable to tap into existing resources or who are working for companies without IT resources, contracting with an external webhosting provider is the only cost-effective option.

Narrowing the choices down can be difficult since there are so many vendors from which to choose. The first step is to list your requirements for developing, managing, and offering a web site to your users. For very simple sites, the vendor may provide tools for creating and managing your site along with available services to extend your site’s offerings, such as online form capabilities. Alternatively, you can use your own HTML authoring tool and upload pages as needed.

Vendors try to make choosing plans as easy as possible by packaging most-requested services together into specific webhosting plans. Doing so allows customers to more easily select what they need; they also benefit from a cost structure that can be kept fairly low. Most plans require an upfront set-up fee along with a monthly fee covering the plan you choose and any additional services (extra e-mail boxes, additional storage, etc.) that you request.

Finally, choosing a webhosting vendor can be confusing due to the array of options. A winning approach includes developing your list of requirements along with a plan for current and future growth to allow you to substantially clarify how your needs map out against your domain hosting options.
