Golf Nutrition Is Not An Oxymoron…Listen Up

November 22nd, 2008

Golf nutrition is still a relatively new concept. However, everybody knows that leading athletes in the NBA and NFL quite often have special diets and specific nutrition programs to help them perform at their peak.

The reasons who golf nutrition is still in it’s’ infancy in the golf game is easy to see. To start with nutrition in sports goes hand in hand with the training and physical exercise program for the particular sport. In golf, exercises are still a very new concept although many professionals have already embraced it as an important part of their golf game.

For years golf has had the image of being a leisure sport to be played by the rich and the sort of people who do not just carelessly break into a sweat. Then came golfers of the likes of the legendary Tiger Woods.

For the first time in the sport, leading golfers were very young and extremely physically fit. Since then, the game has never been the same again and as exercise continues to take center stage golf nutrition has to grow alongside it.

Golf nutrition is usually part and parcel of a golf exercise program and is really designed to enhance energy and strength even as the exercise program works to build up the golfer.

The sort of golf nutrition that will become common will not be very different from what we see in other sports. The idea will be to have a diet of energy foods and foods that will help in building up strength and endurance for a better golf game.

So the typical nutrition recommendations that go with weight training for strength will be found in the special golf nutrition that leading experts are recommending to golfers.

This is the direction that the wonderful game of golf has taken and it seems that there is no turning back for any golfer who wants to improve their game. You just have to consider golf nutrition alongside your current golf exercise program.

HEAT DESTORYED MY SMARTCAST FISHFINDER

November 21st, 2008

You have permission to publish this article in its entirety either; electronically or in print, free of charge. As long as by-lines are included. A courtesy copy of your publication; or notification of your use of my article would be greatly appreciated! Thank You.

I got a Smartcast fishfinder this April for checking out small lakes form the bank. I planned to use to locate where the fish were, and area of dead water. I was very pleased with what information this little device showed me. I just kept the rod mounted unit on my light weight rod.

I normally put the rod in the garage after a fishing trip for bluegills. The past couple weeks I have been trying to locate and catch some Skipjacks on the Ohio River. Since I was checking about every morning , I left that rod with the unit in the trunk of my car.

The Other morning I took the rod with me on a catfishing trip to help scout out the waters all around my boat for fish. I cast the transducer out and let it settle, then hit the rod mount unit, NOTHING showed up on the screen! I push every button on the unit, still no display. I figured the battery ran down, reeled in the transducer and removed it from the line. Rig up the rod so I was able to catch the Skipjacks that came near the boat.

When I got back home I checked out the battery in the rod mount unit, it was good per my voltmeter. I swapped out the battery with the spare in the packet, still no display.

I got out the maintenance folder for the rod mount unit. It stated the unit should be removed from the rod when in use. Then kept in a cool dark place, avoid sunlight and HEAT . So I fried the computer chips in the unit so it is destroyed.

I am posting this message to anyone that has or intends to get a Humming Bird SMARTCAST fishfinder. To protect your investment, REMOVE THE ROD MOUNT UNIT FROM YOUR ROD WHEN NOT IN USE. KEEP THAT UNIT IN A DARK GOOL PLACE WHEN NOT IN USE. This unit are a great tool for anyone that has to fish from the bank. It does show you where the fish are, as well as depth of the water, and structure of the bottom. Hopefully this posting will prevent you from having to replace a unit like I will be doing now. Tight lines to all.

ERP and CAD Integration in Engineer-to-Order Environment

November 19th, 2008

The current issue of Automation.com includes a feature article by contributing editor, Thomas R. Cutler about ERP and CAD integration in the ETO (Engineer-to-Order) Environment. According to Cutler’s feature, traditional ERP systems were developed for the repetitive, make-to-stock manufacturer, where there is a clear demarcation between design and production. In that environment the engineer designs the product in a CAD application. After testing and prototyping, the product is released to production, which is managed by the ERP system. The design engineer has little or no interaction with the ERP system and works quite happily in a CAD environment. Following the work of the design engineer, a production engineer then creates a bill of materials (BOM), based on how it will be manufactured, not on how the product is designed. In the Engineer-to-Order (ETO) world the role of the design engineer is very different. By its nature an ETO company builds a unique product designed to meet the specification of a single customer. The two worlds of design and manufacturing are closely linked. In many cased the design of the product continues through the product process (design-in-process), incorporating a multitude of engineering changes. These changes can be driven by the customer or by the manufacturer. In this environment a seamless flow of data between engineering and production is critical. An ETO company must integrate CAD and ERP.

Mountain Bikes – Cycling through the Rough

November 14th, 2008

If you want to get into a fun sport that will allow you to get plenty of exercise, get into shape, and offer you challenges that you won’t find elsewhere – all while enjoying an abundance of nature – you might want to start thinking about mountain bikes. Mountain biking is a popular sport that has been around for numerous years, but recently, with the new technology that goes into the manufacturing of today’s mountain bikes, there seems to be a new interest in this sport.

If the sport of mountain biking isn’t something that you know a lot about, you may have the wrong idea about the sport. You’ve seen the mountain bikers on the television sports channels jumping obstacles and racing down dirt trails – and racing is one aspect of mountain biking. However, racing is not required. In fact, most mountain bikers don’t race at all.

Mountain biking for most people can be compared to hiking. The point is to get out, get exercise, and experience nature. Yes, there will be obstacles to maneuver around on them more advanced trails, but many people are just out for the pleasure of riding in nature – just like hikers are out to enjoy the walk and the nature. Some mountain bikers are leisurely riders. Some like the challenges that they face out on the trails – but they aren’t in any hurry. Other’s like both the challenges and the racing! The path you choose is up to you.

With this new light on the sport of mountain biking, you may now be interested in getting involved in this sport. Maybe you want to lose weight. Maybe you just want to get more exercise. Then again, maybe you like the thought of enjoying nature, but you aren’t big on walking, and prefer to ride. No matter what your reasons for your interest are, you will definitely need a mountain bike – finding a place to ride it is the easy part.

As a beginner, you really won’t have any idea what you need in the way of a mountain bike. Therefore, it is in your best interest to buy a very basic, yet sturdy, mountain bike that can be upgraded at a later date. Visit your local bike dealer, and talk to them. Let them know that you are just starting out, and that you want a basic bike that you can upgrade later. If they try to sell you something expensive – more than $500 – walk away and visit a different store.

You might also consider purchasing a used bike from a private individual. Used bikes can be found online, through the printed classifieds, and even through bike dealers. Look around your area – and online – to see what is available.

Before making a purchase, it is always a good idea to talk to other mountain bikers. Ask them what bike they started with, and what they would suggest for you. The best information you will find will come from the people who are already deeply into the sport.

Once you’ve made a purchase, you need to find a place to ride. Are there any state parks or national forests in your area? Are there wooded areas that aren’t fenced off? These are ideal places to ride. However, you should never ride on private property without permission. If you can’t think of any place that might have bike trails, do a little research online. Type in ‘bike trails in Alabama’ or ‘mountain bike trails in Georgia’ or whatever state you live in into the search box of any search engine, and you will find quite a bit of information!

Look for sites that offer reviews of bike trails that you want to visit. These reviews will save you a lot of time, and help you avoid the trails that either aren’t worth your time, or aren’t suited to your skill level. Reading is actually a big part of mountain biking if you are a beginner! You should also consider purchasing a few mountain bikes videos. These videos will help you learn the basics before you set off on a trail!

Learning How to Fish

November 13th, 2008

You have decided that you want to learn to fish. There are several ways of learning, the hardest being trial and error. It would be best to find an instructor for one-on-one lessons.

1. Buy seasickness medication

Nothing is worse than ruining your fishing because of seasickness. Most seasickness medication e.g. Bonine would be fine. Even seasoned fishermen are known to take some on rough days. Take one before you go to sleep, another when you wake up and a third one before you board.

2. Buy a reference book

A lot of good books are available at your bookstores and online. The book should give you instructions as well as terms and definitions. Some things you may not immediately understand but you should know anyway. Learn how to tie different kinds of knots. This knowledge will be invaluable for other purposes throughout your life.

3. Go to a party

There are party boats that carry from fifteen to as many as sixty anglers. The boat provides everything like bait, rod, reel, sinkers and hooks. They assist you in fishing and take the fish off the hook for you. Mates will spot you and will generally stay close to assist you. Party boats generally will cost you $25 – $70 a day, and the fish are yours to keep. The party boat is a bargain for beginners.

4. Pick your pier

Assuming you have already acquired skills to operate a rod and reel, you need to look for a fishing pier. Majority of coastal cities have one public pier or pay-to-fish pier. You can rent tackle and buy bait at the piers. If you’re having trouble, there are many pier anglers willing to help and give you tips.

5. Party or pier

You may want to do either step three or four or both at this point. The best thing to do is to do both several times to really learn.

6. The reel deal

The conventional reel is probably what you’re using up to this point. The conventional reel is designed for a lot of wear and tear. You may now want to consider other types and makes of reels. Ideally you have met people and perhaps made a friend or two who can assist you in selecting a reel. You can even ask a tackle shop owner for tips.

You need to understand the mechanics of the reel and the other equipment. Learning to cast, tie knots and bait are not that complicated. Secondly, you need to learn where to fish. Successful fishermen know where the fish are located. Fish move from place to place and knowledgeable anglers understand these patterns and are able to anticipate where the fish are located.

College Basketball Injuries

November 12th, 2008

If you want to turn a profit in the competitive world of sports wagering, it’s necessary to keep up on things on a daily basis. Take injuries in college basketball. Injuries happen all the time and one has to be on top of everything. Alabama just lost leading scorer Chuck Davis for the season. How does this affect their ability to rebound? Do they have other offensive options to rely on? Is there a devastating psychological aspect that might take place when a team of high expectations loses its best player? Remember five years ago when Cincinnati was No. 1 in the nation going into the March tournament, and in the first minute of the first game lost star forward Kenyon Martin to a broken leg? That flattened their chances and their emotional state.

I’m not just talking about season-ending injuries to star players, either. Role players can be a huge key to a team’s success, such as the unsung rebounding forward who does the dirty work under the boards. If that role player is lost for a few weeks or the entire season, that can alter the subtle chemistry on a team.

In addition, players often play through nagging injuries that pop up during a long season. Arkansas State last week was a good example. The Indians have had several players over the last week suffer nagging injuries. In last week’s win at Little Rock, they had to go with only 5 players for the final 12 minutes of the game! In their next game, they lost and failed to cover at Middle Tennessee State as the lack of depth took a toll. Check out the box score on that game. Notice that Arkansas State used 5 starters and one sixth man pretty much the whole game. It’s no surprise they wilted down the stretch as MTS pulled away late.

If a player has a strong defensive guard that is hurting with an ankle or hamstring problem, maybe the injury isn’t severe enough to force him to sit down, but it also may hinder his effectiveness. He could loss a step or two and be vulnerable to penetrating guards, or not be quick enough to defend on the perimeter anymore. You can identify this by looking at box scores and seeing if they are allowing more three-point shots, for instance.

Northern Iowa has a very good team this season, but notice they just lost senior guard Erik Crawford for four to six weeks after suffering a broken bone in his right foot. Crawford was averaging 10.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game and had started all 17 games for the Panthers. He had made 80 consecutive starts for the Panthers dating to the 2003-04 season. This is something serious sports bettors need to circle and keep tabs on.

Cincinnati senior forward Armein Kirkland will miss the remainder of the season, their fourth leading scorer. UCLA’s fine season is being tested by a rash of injuries. The Bruins are without lone senior Cedric Bozeman, who also is done for the year with torn cartilage in his left shoulder, and star sophomore guard Jordan Farmar has been bothered by a nagging ankle injury. This week, they found out sophomore guard Josh Shipp will miss the remainder of the season (hip).

Also, some teams get players back because of injuries and suspensions. Bradley played the first 8 games of the season without 7-foot sophomore center Patrick O’Bryant, who was a strong force as a freshman last season. All of this goes beyond stats. Stats can be almost meaningless when key players, both starters and role players, are hurting or seriously injured.
