2006 Cincinnati Reds Preview

November 28th, 2008

2005 Overview:

The biggest news for Cincinnati Reds fans in 2005 was the fact that Ken Griffey Jr.(.301 35 92) was able to play an entire season injury free for the first time in over 5 full seasons. What was so impressive about Griffey’s 2005 performance was his ability to completely return to form, hitting for both power and average. Griffey grabbed the Comeback Player of the Year Award for his outstanding efforts.

The rest of the Reds 2005 offense was provided by Adam Dunn (.247 40 101), veteran 2nd baseman Rich Aurilia (.282 14 68) and outfielder Austin Kearns (.240 18 67). Unfortunately, the Reds starting pitching didn’t offer many wins in 2005. Starters Aaron Harang (11 13 3.83), Brandon Claussen (10-11 4.21) and Ramon Ortiz (9 11 5.36) joined Eric Milton (8 15 6.47) and closer David Weathers (7-4 3.94 15 saves) to handle the majority of the pitching duties during the season. Weathers’ was picked up from the Mets and was converted into a full-time closer we he nailed down 15 out of 19 save opportunities. No real staff Ace emerged in 2005 with Harang leading the rotation with 11 wins. The Reds ended the season with a less then impressive final 73-89 record, finishing 27 games behind the NL Central Champion St. Louis Cardinals.

Off Season Moves:

The Reds recognized pitching as their main priority during the off season so they traded away popular first baseman Sean Casey to the Pittsburgh Pirates for left handed starter Dave Williams (10-11 4.41). Unfortunately the Reds did little else to address their starting pitching needs. Veteran Infielder Rich Aurilia re-signed, and Cincinnati also traded for utility man Tony Womack (.249 in 2005), which was designed to give the team some options off the bench in 2006. Lefthander reliever Chris Hammond (5-1 3.84) also signed on from the defending NL West Champion Padres.

2006 Analysis:

Expect Adam Dunn now to move over to first base, leaving the outfield responsibilities to Austin Kearns, Ken Griffey Jr. and Wily Mo Pena. The Reds really didn’t significantly address the starting pitching in the off season and the one new starting pitcher they acquired (Williams) will hardly make a difference for the team in 2006. With Harang leading the group with only 11 wins there is a bunch of work to be done before the Reds can hope to contend. Williams was only a 10 game winner in 2005 so fans shouldn’t expect much from him either.

Like many major league teams, the Reds are relying heavily on their youngsters which include Kearns, Pena, Dunn, shortstop Felipe Lopez, and Ryan Freel. Fans were happy to get the old Griffey back in 2005 and are hopeful he will pick up where he left off when he starts the 2006 season. Dave Weathers is simply not a strong closer although the team managed to squeeze 15 saves out of him last season. Hammond was a nice pick up and should help out a struggling bullpen – but even more help is needed. Cincinnati Reds fans should expect more of the same in 2006.

Jack Scrafford recommends PlatinumTickets to buy Cincinnati Reds tickets. See www.platinumtickets.com/mlb/cincinnati_reds_tickets.html for more information.

Nice offer 5000 dollar at a good loan rate of 15.5 percent

November 27th, 2008

At this present you can look into rates quickly on the internet and forecast if there are other sneaky conditions you should be aware of. 18.5 percent rate of interest may come out so ok but will that be unvaried after you’re going to refund your loan. That’s why now you need to check up on and jut if you can have a bank loan at a just percent interest rate. A merchant bank in Great Falls Montana or so may have a total totally different actual rate for a 15000 dollar deferred payment then a bank in Mesa Arizona and that makes a immense clear difference in your monthly pay offs. It makes no difference if you live in Asheville North Carolina or in Cambridge Massachusetts a proficient online check up will spare you often a lot of disoblige. Investigate to see if the moneylender who wants to give you a loan is safe.

A lot of the banks wil show you a rate of interest that looks average but doesn’t feel advantageously or so after a period of time. You should be overbold today to examine if you have a super bargain or if you don’t with the moneylender that offers you a money loan.

Special events recording in DVD players’ age

November 27th, 2008

The proliferation of portable DVD players has dramatically changed the videography approach.

Digital era prompted people to make critical choices. Videotapes’ life came to an end as the DVDs and DVD players appeared and replaced them by and large. To meet the emerging needs, new services and new jobs showed up, drawing out a growing industry.
Preserving for the future

If you really want to preserve your touching family records (weddings, births, anniversary moments) or you really need to preserve and share your business presentations, then you should definitely transfer onto DVD formats.

Old formats have been forsaken because:

* old videotapes are much more fragile
* over time the degradation is imminent
* videotapes lose quality in case you make copies to try to preserve or share them, and maybe worse of them,
* you arent’t allowed to a easy access, play, and search.

On the other side, with a DVD format you can:

1. watch much more conveniently on DVD players (even on the road, with portables), desktops, laptops
2. DVD menus and chapter breaks allow you to browse through scenes and jump directly to a favorite clip. DVDs may include also other materials, such as photo slide shows and computer files. And maybe best of all advanatges of digital technology:
3. each copy you make is an precise duplicate of the original, so you can show and register your memories into the future.

In other words, you have the possibility to realize personal optimized records.

Well, who can do all these, at high standard ?

* You, by our own. If you want your video transferred onto DVD with basic menus and chapters, you should ask for services like YesVideo and HomeMovie.com. All you have to do is to send them the tapes. They are to digitize and process them into DVD format, burn them to disc, and then ship back to you what you asked for. The client is offered the posibility to get back the tapes from a store that represents one of these services. Or, in case you don’t have enough time or required skills,
* A professional video production or DVD authoring facility to make the job.

Live Event Production Services

By recording live award shows, live concerts, music festivals outdoor, corporate events and variety shows, entertainment industry has given a whole new significance to videography industry. There are now many professional companies doing this job at very high quality levels. They have to register/shoot and edit what is happening on the stage, but also:

* to integrate various moments: the show itself, short interviews before and after, what is called “behind the scenes”, very appreciate by the artists themselves and the audience, too
* finally, to pack all formats: live orchestras, audio and video playback, television production, sound systems and put on a DVD format to deliver
* to authorize the product

Given the fact that these kind of video productions has additionally a documentary value, they are highly rated in entertainment industry. Besides,

1. the easiness of delivering and playing in home theater or on long trips by car
2. the compatibility and
3. the connectivity on different advanced players

make live event productions very popular, too. And all these, thanks to the yielding DVDs revolution.

Invest in the Future for Your Child, where to Invest the Two Hundred and Fifty Pounds

November 25th, 2008

Are you aware of the Child Trust Fund and its benefits? a small amount appear to know about the fact that all new babies get a free £250 voucher from the government to place in a Child Trust Fund. The child’s voucher can be invested in any one of three types of CTF account, Stakeholder – a shares-based account thatswaps into cash, a savings account or a shares account. It is an excellent way to prepare for the future requirements of a youngster

Scottish Friendly is an approved provider of the Child Trust Fund The State is keen for people to have access to Stakeholder accounts and this is the kind of account that we are offering. This means that:

Investments go into Scottish Friendly’s Managed Growth Fund, which seeks to provide strong growth potential

An investment is made in part in shares to get the benefit of potentially higher returns over 18 years, compared to a cash deposit account (although the value of shares can
fall as well as increase whereas capital would be protected in a deposit account)

It is available with a low ‘Stakeholder’ funds charge of just 1.5 percent yearly

When reaching 18 the child will get a lump sum, totally free of Capital Gains and Income Tax under prevailing legislation

It’s affordable – extra payments can be put in the account from as little as £10

A notable attraction of the Child Trust Fund is that anyone – parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends – can add to the Fund to a maximum of £1,200 per year to help augment the child’s Fund (once added, this money is not allowed to be withdrawn).

All this means our Stakeholder account offers a good balance between potentially high returns and a reduced level of risk. There’s also the additional assurance that our account is in accordance with with the Government’s stakeholder criteria. Nonetheless this doesn’t mean that returns are assured or that Stakeholder accounts are suitable for everyone. Remember that the value of shares in the Managed Growth Fund (where your Child Trust Fund money is invested) can fall as well as go up and would not be guaranteed.

Only children born on or after 1st September 2002 are eligible to start up a Child Trust Fund. If you have older children born before the above-mentioned date who are not qualified you could contemplate saving for them with a Child Bond – it’s a tax-free savings plan intended for long-term growth.

The fact is that investing for a child.your children is a sensible means of preparing for tomorrow.

Maximizing Game Day Bat Speed

November 25th, 2008

If you’re a hitter – baseball, slow pitch, or fastpitch softball, you’ll definitely find this to your liking!

I’m a big proponent of appropriate strength & conditioning
as a way of increasing GAME TIME performance. This includes generating maximal bat speed. Unfortunately, science says what most of you are doing in the on-deck circle just prior to stepping to the plate is hindering your bat speed and quickness right when you need it most.

What are most of you doing in the on-deck circle? Swinging some type of heavy implement. Why is this wrong? I’ve summarized below the results of a study done in 1991 by Dr. Coop Derenne of the University of Hawaii-Hilo. Results are ranked fastest to slowest by implement used. Bat velocity was measured by use of a photosensing computer timer. Players were college age; game bat weight was 30 oz:

1) Wooden overloaded bat (34 oz)
2) 27 oz underloaded bat
3) Standard 30 oz game bat
4) 25 oz underloaded batv
5) Power swing (adds 32 oz to bat)
6) 23 oz underloaded batv
7) Donut ring (adds 28 oz to bat)

Notice that the WORST item was the standard heavy batting donut. Also, using UNDERload (light) bats produced better readings than heavier implements. Just swinging your game bat with no weight attached produced better readings than any of the heavier tools!

The question you may be asking is WHY? Why, when you grab two or
three bats or another heavy device, swing them vigorously, then grab your game bat (which now feels light as a feather) does this slow you down? You feel so much faster with your game bat after this, don’t you?

What happens is simple fatigue of the fast twitch muscles you’re depending on to perform at your best. At an imperceptible, neuromuscular level, all of this heavy work just before performing actually tires you out! So, right at the time you need to be your fastest, you’ve just slowed yourself down. It’s sort of like a sprinter running a bunch of sprints or laps minutes before a race. Yes, he’s warmed up, but he has also depleted too much of his energy, so he cannot perform at his peak.

Notice that the two best times were with weights that were about 10% above & 10% below the game bat weight. Just enough weight (the 34 oz bat) for you to get warmed up and ready, but light enough to not affect swing mechanics. The underload bat (27 oz) is noticeably lighter, allowing for an effective warm-up and priming the body to swing faster – overSPEED training.

Don’t confuse this on-deck performance with a regular workout using heavy implements to develop strength and power. During such a workout, you’re not appearing at the plate facing perhaps a 90 mph fastball. Tiring the muscles during a workout is the point.

However, this data underscores the fact that bat speed is most effectively developed by a combination of both heavy and light training. DO NOT NEGLECT OVERSPEED/UNDERLOAD TRAINING! If you only train slow and heavy, mechanics will be negatively affected (a real problem with a refined ‘power skill’ such as hitting) and you’ll perform slow as well.

So put down that heavy device in the on-deck circle and go light! Especially when you’re facing serious gas! And slow pitch hitters who are not facing ‘gas,’you too need to generate maximal bat speed to drive the ball hard/deep.

Handicapping Baseball Totals

November 24th, 2008

Betting on baseball totals provides outstanding value and opportunities to profit from for a variety of reasons: Home plate umpires have tendencies that can be exploited. In baseball, more so than any other sport, the home plate umpire has a tremendous impact on the game because of the size of his strike zone. Each umpire has a different strike zone, some are wider, others are tighter. Umpires with a wider strike zone favors the pitchers while umpires with a smaller strike zone will favor the batters. Baseball totals streaks are not as noted by the Public or the media providing excellent line value for the astute handicapper. Nothing drives away line value quicker than the Public’s backing. For the first part of the 2004 baseball season, lefty – lefty matchups of starting pitchers were ringing up unders at an alarming rate. Unfortunately for the Public, it appears that they jumped on the bandwagon too late as the trend is reversing to Overs in these matchups (as all trends do with time). Unfortunately, the Public has driven up the line on Unders in these matchups, so they’re losses are more than they should be do to the inflated lines and lack of value.

Sportsbooks don’t have as much room to adjust their totals. Baseball totals typically range from a low of 6.5 and a high of 12 (except for Coors Field which produces an abundance of high scoring affairs). When two hot hitting teams face off against one another against average starting pitching, the total will not go above 12 (-145) in most instances. Likewise, when two cold hitting teams play against two dominant starters, the total will not drop below 6.5 while laying no more than (-145). However, if a Top 10 pitcher on a winning team faces a struggling team and pitcher you may have to lay -300 to win $100. Capping totals involves many components:

1) We start be reviewing who the home plate umpire will be. If this is the first game of a series, this information will usually not be available until an hour before game time. The umpires follow a rotation with the first base umpire behind the plate the next night. Pay attention to the umpires over/under record in their games called and the percentage of strikes that they call. Once again, a higher percentage of strikes will more than likely produce Unders as the wider strike zone favors the pitchers. A lower percentage of called strikes will favor the batters as they will more than likely be facing hitters counts where the pitcher will have to throw a strike.

2) Look at each teams over/under record in their last 10 games. Also note any current streaks. Ideally, you want to jump on a team at the beginning of a streak. A solid hitting team like the Yankees, if their bats have been quiet the last few games, a break out is more than likely looming. Conversely, a light hitting team like the Expos recent string of overs might be nearing an end. When looking at each teams over/under streak, note if it is solid hitting or shaky pitching producing overs or weak hitting and excellent pitching ringing up Unders. Also look at how each teams batting average and runs scored fares against lefties or righties depending on the starting pitcher.

3) Review each teams starting pitchers combined over/under record on the season and in their last 3 games. Pay attention to the combined pitchers WHIP (walks and hits per 9 innings). Note any trends such as an average pitcher with a propensity towards overs that has been pitching better of late as noted by his recent string of unders and drop in WHIP.

4) Look at the bullpens. Have they seen extensive action over the last few days? Are they over or under performing in recent games as compared to their season history? Are any pitchers in the pen unavailable from too much work the previous night?

When you combine the following factors, it should be fairly obvious which way to go with the Over/Under. Do not force action. Only play those games that have the highest probability of going Over or Under the total based on your researched facts.

Baseball totals, while often over looked by the average handicapper, can be very profitable and swing the value in the handicappers favor. By tracking a teams recent hitting and pitching performances, while also factoring in the home plate umpire tendencies, solid total betting values can be found to swing the advantage to the Capper!

Good Luck!

You Don’t Have to Hurt Yourself to Snowboard

November 23rd, 2008

You Don’t Have to Hurt Yourself to Snowboard Snowboarding Gear to Keep you Safe and Comfortable as you Learn and Ride

Are you thinking of trying snowboarding, but reluctant because you’ve heard that you’ll be bruised after the painful edge-catching falls of the first three days? Or have you tried snowboarding but thrown in the towel because it hurts too much when you fall?

Snowboarding without Injuries– Snowboarding without injuries is actually a possibility. If you wear protective snowboard gear you will greatly reduce the odds of hurting yourself when you snowboard. You will not have to worry as much about possible pain and injury on the slopes, and you can relax and enjoy the ride. If you are lucky enough to always ride on soft deep powder, protection is not such a big issue. But hard snow happens, especially in Eastern America.

Most Websites and Magazines Do Not Discuss Snowboard Safety– and protection for the snowboarder. In some circles, it seems there is something stoic and admirable about enduring pain. If you disagree. and want to spend quality time on the slopes instead of nursing bumps and bruises on the sidelines or sustaining slow-healing injuries that can become chronic and arthritic, read on.

Main Points of Impact with Snow and Ice– When you ride, the main points of impact where your body will meet the snow or ice are predictable: knees, hands and wrists, buttside or tailbone, and head are the target zones. Protect these body parts and you will hurt less and have a lot more fun.

Knee Protection for Snowboarders– Knee protection is one of the most important pieces of snowboard protective gear. Your knees are bony and vulnerable. And they are complex joints that are painful and expensive to fix.

Wear in-line Skate Knee Pads beneath your snow pants. Make sure they are soft and well-padded on the inside and hard plastic to absorb shock and protect on the outside. Good pads will also keep your knees warm and flexible, and you can relax so much more knowing that a fall forward is not going to be painful and damaging. Beginners fall on their knees often. Believe it or not, good knee pads also help to protect your wrists. Read on.

Hand/Wrist Protection for Snowboarders– Falling forward with your weight on your hands is a good way to break a wrist. Fists should be balled up, with your thumb outside, as if you were ready to punch someone. Try to relax and fall evenly on your protected knees, and forearms. You should wear good protective knee pads so you can distribute the weight on both your knees and hands. Then you won’t have to try to catch yourself with your hands.

Some experts argue that wearing skate wrist guards can increase the severity of a fracture by sending the “shock” up the arm to a larger bone. A new snowboard specific safety glove and wrist guard is now on the US Market. It was designed by a French Emergency Room physician who has worked on thousands of snowboard fractures, and it is supposed to reduce snowboard wrist injuries by up to 60%.

Butt/Tailbone Protection for Snowboarders–

People sometimes say “But I have plenty of natural padding on my butt.” Forget it. You need padding that is not connected to your central nervous system.

If you’re a beginner and if you don’t have anything else, you can slide some bubble wrap down the back of your pants. Use plenty! You’ll hear the bubbles pop when you fall and you’ll be glad you wore them. And you will have saved a lot of jarring to your spine as well as wear and tear on your buttocks and tailbone.

Once you’re convinced of the need to save your posterior, invest in some real padding designed for snowboarders. A hard plastic shell outside with soft padding on the inside is great. It will hardly be noticeable beneath your snow pants and it really helps.

Helmets for Snowboarders– You might think (mistakenly) that helmets are only for people who ride in the trees, or do big tricks. But the first time you catch an edge and go CLUNK! and the back of your head hits the hard hard ground, you’ll reconsider. A helmet also adds the comfort of warmth and dryness, as well as cushioning for your brain. With a helmet on, you can ride in the rain comfortably, and have the slopes almost to yourself.

You should buy a helmet in person at a shop. Correct fit is mandatory and tricky. Get expert help at the snowboard shop to be sure the helmet fits. And have your helmet checked for safety and fit next season if you fell on it a lot or grew dreds or shaved your head since you purchased it.

Hydration for Snowboarders– Snowboarding creates heat. That means you are perspiring, even when it’s cold. Stay hydrated with water, and you will be able to ride longer and better. To replace the water lost perspiring and breathing the dry winter air, use a hydration system. It is a backpack with a water bladder, and a tube to deliver the water to your mouth. Simple and efficient. Just grab the tube, bite the valve on the end, and sip. You can easily do it while sitting on the lift. You can wear it outside your coat, or even under it on freezing days.

You can do tricks and ride the pipe while wearing a small hydration backpack, no problem. You can also throw an extra clothing layer, energy bar, tool set, or whatever in the hydration backpack. The backpacks come in many different sizes and configurations.

Safety for Your Board– It’s just as important to protect your trusty ride when you get off it. Hardcore riders never let their boards out of their site. If you do, check yours at the lodge, or lock it with a small cable lock that you carry in your backpack. Also register it online at http://www.SnowboardRegisty.com so if it does disappear, you at least have a chance of getting it back. And be a good citizen of the snowboard universe. Before you buy a used board, check its serial number at http://www.SnowboardRegisty.com to make sure it wasn’t reported stolen.

Ride Happily Many a Day– Unlike with skating and surfing, you DON’T have to endure pain to learn and ride your snowboard. Respect yourself. Dress for safety and comfort on the slopes, and you’ll come back to ride happily many a day.

All you need to do to make your hubby or son puff up with pride is to give either of them a baseball jacket. Or even both of them, why not? Make certain you pick a baseball jacket that carries the insignia of the baseball team he is cheering for.
